7/08 Gaudí / Romanesque Art

08 July 2008 - We had a great walking day today ... touring through the Plaza Espanyol and walking up the hill to the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (Catalán). We visited a few buildings designed by Gaudí, we toured many small backstreets of the city and we ate paella ... a very successful and satisfying day.

Here is the first building we visited, La Pedrera, an example of Gaudi's architecture, with undulating curves and smooth lines ...

A short video showing the front of the building ... click on the play button to view.

A model of La Pedrera ... in the attic exhibit.

Another Gaudí building, Casa Batlló, a few blocks away from La Pedrera.

Here are a few pictures of the unfinished Gaudi work, La Familia Sagrada (The Holy Family) Temple.

A view from La Pedrera terrace ...

Some evening shots of Familia Sagrada ...

The other side has a different look, as shown below ...

The Plaza Espanya ...

A building that faces Plaza Espanya ... the Catalonia Plaza Hotel.

We walked through Plaza Espanyola and up the hill to the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (Catalán) ... what a great museum, and what gorgeous views of the city. As before in the trip, pictures do not do it justice ...

The Museu ...

A view of the museum from across town - you can see some of the Olympic sport complex behind the museum ...

... and a couple views from the museum ...

... and a couple tourists.

The meal of the day was a paella, with Nischa joining us at a sidewalk café.

And finally, one of the funnier signs we encountered - No Kids!
