6/17 Day at Loch Ness

17 June 2008 - Visited Loch Ness, Urquhart Castle, Corrimony Chambered Cairn, rode a boat on the Loch and Caledonian Canal - see some photos below, of some of the day's activities.

Here is the boat I road on Loch Ness and through part of the Caledonian Canal that links the Loch with Moray Bay and eventually the Noth Sea - see photos farther below.

This is Urquhart Castle located at a strategic point along the west coast of Loch Ness.

Corrimony Chambered Cairn is situated in the hills, some 8 miles above Urquhart Castle, to the west of the Loch.

The boat ride down the Caledonian Canal - at Dochgarroch Lock

A field of Gorse, blooming in the Highland Hills ...

Gaelic and English - the road leads to Inverness ...

Back in Inverness in the evening - it stays light very late this time of year, which means it must be really dark early in the winter. Here are a couple shots from the Inverness Castle grounds. The first is a statue of Flora MacDonald.

And here is a shot across the river to the west, a view of the neighborhood and the hills climbing up toward the horizon.

I had dinner at the Castle Restaurant, nearby ... and had my first-ever introduction to Haggis, Tatti's and Neeps (that's potatos and turnips).

The Haggis was great - thoroughly enjoyed it! Must try another.
